Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has pleaded with the club not to let Paul Pogba leave.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is thought to be trying to strike a deal with the Catalan giants but the Red Devils are reluctant to part with the midfielder after spending £89m on him two summers ago.
While Pogba looks to seal his exit, manager Jose Mourinho is focused on bringing in another two players, with a new centre-back his priority.
And it’s clear from Ferdinand’s tweet who he feels executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward should be looking to sign.
He tweeted: “Don’t you dare allow this ED… #MUFC is Pogba’s home!! Silence these rumours ASAP & get @AlderweireldTob through the door.”
Alderweireld remains strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford with his future at Spurs unclear.
Fekir to Chelsea talks
Chelsea will open talks with Lyon over a deal for Nabil Fekir tonight, Express Sport understands.
Express Sport understands they will try and open channels with Lyon over a deal for Fekir today.
Chelsea take on Lyon in their final pre-season match of the summer at Stamford Bridge.
Talks with Lyon over a possible £55m deal for Fekir will be held.
But a move to west London for the France international is far from a certainty.
Fekir almost joined Liverpool before the World Cup only for his deal to collapse at the 11th hour due to concerns found in his medical.
The Reds have since dropped their interest in the France international, who went on to win the World Cup in Russia.
Jack Butland, AC Milan’s Pepe Reina, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Sevilla’s Sergio Rico are the possible contenders to replace Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea.
Courtois has gone AWOL as he tries to force a move to Real Madrid.
Courtois was due to return after holiday to training with Chelsea on Monday afternoon where talks with new manager Maurizio Sarri were scheduled, but he did not turn up at the club’s Cobham HQ.
And now the Blues will press ahed with finding a replacement before Thursday’s 5pm deadline.

Mateo Kovacic goes AWOL
Manchester United have been given a boost in their pusuit of Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic, reports claim.
Kovacic has found himself linked with a move to Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho has been eyeing a deal for the ex-Inter Milan star as he seeks to add more quality to his squad.
Recent reports had suggested that Kovacic was unwilling to play for United.
But now according to Spanish paper Marca, Kovacic has gone AWOL and refused to turn up training.
However, it is suggested he will stay in the Spanish capital until his future is sorted.
Jack Grealish statement
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has conceded he might find it hard to keep hold of Jack Grealish.
Tottenham and Chelsea have both been around Grealish, who are both interested in striking a deal.
Previously, it was thought that Villa would have to sell Grealish to balance their books.
But Bruce is worried that Grealish could leave before deadline day.
“He is a wonderful talent,” Bruce said.
“We will do our best to keep hold of him, but it is going to be difficult.”
Paul Pogba swap deal blasted
Manchester United should not consider a swap deal with Barcelona for Paul Pogba, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
Reports emerged on Monday that Manchester United turned down a swap deal involving Pogba which was a player-plus-cash situation.
It was claimed that Barca were willing to sacrifice Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes to make a transfer happen.
But according to Redknapp, the proposed offer makes no sense whatsoever.
“Man Utd don’t need two players that can’t get into the Barcelona team,” Redknapp said on The Debate.
“I wouldn’t do that deal. No chance!”

Pogba swap rejected
Manchester United have reportedly snubbed the opportunity to trade Paul Pogba for two Barcelona players – plus £45m in cash.
Pogba’s future has been the subject of plenty of speculation since last season with his and Jose Mourinho’s relationship strained.
Barcelona has been touted as a potential destination for the midfielder, with his agent Mino Raiola keen to seal a deal.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reckons Barcelona have launched a bid for Pogba.
However, United were unwilling to entertain their offer which involved Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and £45m (€50m) cash.
United could return to the negotiating table for Mina though, with Mourinho eager to add to his defensive options.

Shakhtar Donetsk winer Bernard will have a medical at Everton.
The Toffees have agreed a deal with the free agent to leave Ukrainian side Shakhtar.
Bernard, 26, will have a medical on Merseyside this week.
Chelsea and West Ham have both missed out on the winger, who could be followed by Barcelona’s Yerry Mina at Goodison Park.
Kepa to Chelsea
Chelsea are willing to trigger Kepa Arrizabalaga’s release clause and sign him as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea need a goalkeeper in place in case Courtois joins Real Madrid.
The Blues are interested in Jack Butland but Spanish newspaper AS claim a move for Arrizabalaga is also on the cards.
The report says the player’s representatives have been contacted by Chelsea over a possible move.
Arrizabalaga, who is under contract at Athletic Bilbao until 2025, will be paid more than his current £68,000-a-week wages.
Arrizabalaga has a £71m (€80m) release clause that Chelsea would have to trigger to force Bilbao to sell up.
Courtois himself would cost Real around £35m.

Real Madrid target Pjanic
Real Madrid will move for Miralem Pjanic if they sell Luka Modric to Inter Milan this summer.
Real are not overly keen on losing Modric, 32, but are aware that the player wants to leave.
And Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Modric’s switch to Inter could trigger a domino effect.
They report that Real would look to buy Juventus star Pjanic as a replacement for the Croatia international.
In turn, Juve would move for Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, leaving fellow suitors AC Milan to push for PSG’s Adrien Rabiot.
And Gazzetta claim it could all come to a head with PSG then making a push to sign Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.
Courtois AWOL, Butland in
Thibaut Courtois has gone AWOL as he tries to force a move away from Chelsea.
Courtois wants to join Real Madrid and is hoping a deal can be struck before Thursday.
The goalkeeper has not turned to up training at Chelsea today and the Daily Mail reckon that’s because of his determination to secure a move to Spain.
He will likely cost £35m if terms can be agreed.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports say that Jack Butland is Chelsea’s top target to replace Courtois if an agreement with Real can be met.
An error by Butland that led to a goal aided Stoke’s 3-1 defeat to Leeds in the opening game of their Championship campaign on Sunday.

Pogba going nowhere
Manchester United will not consider throwing Paul Pogba into a deal to sign Yerry Mina.
Everton look all set to land Mina from Barcelona despite United being in talks with the Nou Camp club.
And Spanish newspaper SPORT claim United have the chance to hijack the deal – but they don’t want to.
It is said that if United offer to sell Pogba to Barcelona, then the Spanish champions will throw Mina into the bargain.
United do not want to lose Pogba this summer even though he has endured two mixed campaigns at Old Trafford under manager Jose Mourinho.

Fekir open to transfer
Nabil Fekir admits he could still leave Lyon after almost joining Liverpool earlier this summer.
Lyon appear open to selling Fekir at the right price and had agreed a £53m deal with the Blues before the World Cup – only for the transfer to fall through.
Liverpool are not expected to renew their offer for the France international this summer.
But the World Cup winner says he could still leave the Ligue 1 side before the French transfer deadline on August 31.
“As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very happy here,” Fekir told Lyon’s official club TV station.
“But the transfer window is still long and everything goes very quickly in football.
“We don’t know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon. I feel brilliant in this squad.
“We have very good players, a great atmosphere. It is a bit like the French national team: a mixture of youngster and older players, with some players more experienced than others.
“We have a good group, very homogeneous. We feel good together and I hope that Lyon will have a very good season.”
Man Utd deal backed
Manchester United can go head-to-head with Premier League champions Manchester City if they bolster their defence with a centre-half, says Peter Crouch.
“Looking in from the outside, you don’t need to be a genius to realise this summer has not gone as they would have wanted,” said Crouch.
“A word of warning, though, to anyone who feels they are in trouble: never write off a Jose Mourinho team.
“When all the players are back, look at the depth of their squad. Tell me how a team with Paul Pogba in midfield and Romelu Lukaku up front won’t win loads of matches? Pogba is someone I’m very keen on watching over the next 12 months.
“He should come back from the World Cup full of confidence and I want to see him stamp his authority on the biggest games, like he did in April’s Manchester derby. If United add a central defender, they have the quality to push City all the way.”

Real Madrid transfer worry
Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos admits the club will find it hard to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real sold Ronaldo to Juventus earlier this simmer and the club are seeking a new superstar to stand in the Portuguese’s place.
But Kroos concedes that may not be possible.
“When you lose 50 goals over a season, it is really tough to replace,” Kroos said.
“Cristiano was hugely important to us over the years and he has been decisive for us in all of our success but I have no doubts we will be very hard to beat again.”
Transfer news – the most likely deals
Ladbrokes have revealed the most likely Premier League deals to go through before the transfer window slams shut. With deadline day fast approaching, the bookies have this afternoon SUSPENDED betting on Yerry Mina joining Everton.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It looks as though we’re set for a hectic four days of huge Premier League deals.”
Top five most likely deals: Yerry Mina to Everton – SUSPENDED, Lucas Perez to West Ham – 1/3, Toby Alderweireld to Man United – 2/5, Jack Grealish to Tottenham – 8/13, Marcos Rojo to Everton – Evs

Gayle to West Brom
Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle has agreed a season-long loan deal to join West Brom, according to Sky Sports.
The agreement between both clubs could see Salomon Rondon head in the opposite direction.
Rondon underwent a medical on Tyneside yesterday and the Magpies will pay a £2m loan fee for their part of the deal.
Gayle netted just six times for Newcastle in the league last season and Rafa Benitez is keen to explore another option up front.
Luiz on Willian
David Luiz has revealed that his close friend Willian told him he wanted to stay at Chelsea – and he did not need any persuading.
The Brazilian winger has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United and Barcelona but Luiz is confident his team-mate will stay in west London.
Luiz said: “We never talked about him leaving. We are friends for a long time.
“Since the beginning, he told me he loved Chelsea. To leave Chelsea, would be something totally out of the reality – if he really wanted to leave or if Chelsea really wanted to kick him out.
“This is not the reality. Chelsea loves Willian, Willian loves Chelsea, so that’s great.
“He’s a fantastic player and a fantastic friend. I’ve known Willian since I was eight, so a long time. Willian loves Chelsea. He played on Sunday after coming back after the World Cup, and he has already shown his quality. I wanted him to stay.”
Transfer news: Paul Pogba reportedly wants to leave Manchester United
Paul Pogba swap deals
Manchester United star Paul Pogba will hold talks with his agent this week as he looks to seal a move away from the club, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho could also receive offers from Juventus and Barcelona with the Portuguese getting a player in return if the club decide to sell.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim he has decided to leave United.
Barcelona and Juventus are the two clubs battling for his signature with Pogba thought to be open to a move to both.
In a bid to convince United to part with the Frenchman, who they paid Juve £89m for in the summer of 2016, both teams are considering offering a player in any potential deal.
Mundo Deportivo claim the Italian side will offer Miralem Pjanic, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, to the Portuguese boss.
But the former Chelsea boss will also be alerted to Barcelona’s proposed offers.
The report claims defender Yerry Mina and midfielder Andre Gomes could enter the equation if Pogba opts for the Nou Camp.
Bookmaker Coral has cut the odds on Manchester United signing Toby Alderweireld this transfer window to 2-5 (from 8-11), with it looking increasingly likely that their failure to strike a deal with Harry Maguire will prompt a move for the Belgian.
Maguire is now out to 2-1 to sign for United this summer, having been odds on at 4-7 last week.
“A big money move for Harry Maguire hasn’t materialised for Manchester United and it now looks very likely that they will instead look to take Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
With the defender happy to run down his contract at Spurs it’s a deal that works for all parties and seems a case of if not when now.”
Palace must keep Zaha
Wilfried Zaha is ‘irreplaceable’ to Crystal Palace despite the links of a transfer away from the club this summer, says team-mate Jonny Williams.
Zaha has made plenty of headlines this summer with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham showing a strong interest in the talented forward.
“I just think he’ll be such a big miss [if he left],” Williams told Express Sport.
“A bit similar to when we play for Wales and we’re missing Bale. It’s that effect he has on the Crystal Palace team.
“He is our star man and everyone knows that. That’s why he’s getting talked about with big teams wanting him because I think he’s at that point now where if big teams take him I think he’ll kick on again because it’s all there for him.
“It’s just up to him now but then I don’t think Palace can afford to let him go.
“It’s a difficult one because not long ago we were in the Championship and if someone’s offering that sort of money… it’s crazy to be honest.
“I don’t think it’s possible to replace him. I think the effects he has single-handedly on games, as I saw against Reading, he just takes it into his own hands with the responsibility to win games by himself.”

Man Utd’s Maguire bid
Manchester United will reportedly launch a bid for Harry Maguire despite claims they are closing in on Toby Alderweireld.
Manchester United have been linked with both Maguire and Alderweireld as they target a successful end to the summer transfer window.
Having dropped their interest in Barcelona powerhouse Yerry Mina because of his agent’s financial demands, claims have circled they are closing in on Alderweireld.
But Sky Sports say United will launch a bid for Maguire before the transfer window shut on Thursday.
And Sky Sports say United are aware they will have to pay more than the £75million Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk back in January, while the Daily Star claim Leicester want £80m for his services.
Should the Red Devils land Maguire, then Rojo is expected to leave.
Wolves and Everton have both been linked with the Argentina international, who signed from Sporting Lisbon four years ago.
Calum Chambers is set to have a medical today at Fulham ahead of a season-long loan.
Chambers signed a new four-year deal in July and looked set to play a prominent role under new manager Unai Emery.
The 23-year-old defender has played an active role in pre-season and started Saturday’s 2-0 win over Lazio.
But according to the Daily Mail, Chambers is set to move to the newly promoted Fulham.
The report says Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic wants experienced defenders because new signing Alfie Mawson is not expected to be fully fit until September.

Mina to Everton
Everton have reportedly rocked Manchester United by agreeing a deal to sign Barcelona powerhouse Yerry Mina.
Manchester United had appeared to be in pole position to sign Mina but recent reports have suggested they have switched their attentions back to Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld.
And Catalan newspaper Sport say Everton have now agreed a deal to sign the 23-year-old defender.
It is said Mina will sign a five-year deal with the Merseyside giants with negotations between both parties sorted swiftly.
And he will cost them just £28million, with United said to have been told it would cost them £40m.
Liverpool transfer target Nabil Fekir is expected to stay at Lyon, reports claim.
Liverpool were close to landing Fekir from Lyon in June but, because of concerns about the player’s long-term history of knee problems, a transfer collapsed.
Since then, reports have claimed the Reds are still eyeing the 24-year-old.
However, the Liverpool Echo say Liverpool have decided NOT to reignite their interest in the World Cup winner.
Lyon are confident the player will stay put despite the potential for a move elsewhere still being on the cards.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has ordered Real Madrid transfer target Thibaut Courtois to make his plans clear to him after dismissing quotes from the goalkeeper’s agent, suggesting his future remained unclear.
speaking after Chelsea’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, Sarri delivered an ultimatum to the 26-year-old – who has 12 months to run on his contract.
Sarri said: “I have no reaction on the agent. I am not interested in the agent. I want to hear from Courtois.
“If Courtois says the same tomorrow I have to speak with my club of course, because I want only players with a very high level of motivation. But I have nothing to add to the agent.”
Arsenal’s £30m plan
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has reportedly decided who he wants to sign as he faces a defensive crisis.
Arsenal have problems at left-back with Sead Kolasinac set for two months on the sidelines having picked up a knee injury in the recent friendly against Chelsea.
Nacho Monreal hasn’t featured in Arsenal’s preparations for the new season having returned from the World Cup with a knee injury.
And the Daily Mail report the new boss will target AC Milan full-back Ricardo Rodriguez before the transfer window closes on Thursday (5pm).
It’s claimed that Milan are keen to keep hold of the 25-year-old and it may cost Emery £30million to get his man.
