Sacred Games on Netflix: What did Kukoo star Kubra Sait think about the nudity?
SACRED GAMES dropped on Netflix on Friday, July 6 and everyone is talking about the transgender character Cuckoo played by Kubra Sait. But how did she feel about those nude scenes?

Sacred Games is the first Netflix Indian Original to premiere on the global streaming site.
It consists of a Bollywood cast, including Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui alongside up-and-coming actors Radhika Apte and breakout star Kubra Sait.
Sacred Games is based on the 2006 critically acclaimed novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra.It is set in Bombay, India – which is present day Mumbai – and follows a cat-and-mouse chase between policeman Sartaj Singh (played by Saif Ali Khan) and notorious criminal Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui).

How did Kubra Sait feel about filming nude scenes in Sacred Games?
Kubra Sait has received praised by critics for her portrayal of transgender bar dancer and cabaret singer Cuckoo in Sacred Games.
Cuckoo plays one of Ganesh Gaitonde’s love interests and one of the most defining scenes of series is when he finds out about her transgender identity.
When Gaitonde asks Cuckoo to reveal her true self, she tearfully obliges, leading to the shows first full-frontal nude scene.
The explicit sexual freedom seen the in the first Netflix Indian original Sacred Games contrasts greatly with India’s strict censorship rules imposed on Bollywood films and TV series.

When asked by Times Now, if she was nervous about a scene she said: “I was not apprehensive at all. After I went to the audition, they told me there’s frontal nudity scene and when you see the show, you can see how beautifully it has been shot. How vulnerable it is. You can never go wrong when you have a great team to work with.”
The scene was filmed on her first day on set and she had to shoot it seven times, giving an emotionally charged performance each time.
Director Anurag Kashyap asked Kubra to imagine being in love with somebody she could not have. Kubra told Times Now: “When he said that, I just started tearing up. The minute he saw one tear in my eye, he said ab koi baat nahi karega [translates to will not talk anymore] and I am going to see her on set. He poured me another glass of whiskey, nobody spoke to me until I went on set.”

She said: “I would literally fall on the floor crying every time. He made me cry real-time seven times. And when we finished the scene, I was still crying on the floor and he hugged me and said I love you so much and thank you for giving me this scene. I walked out of the room and everyone clapped, I didn’t know it was so beautifully done.”
Who is Kukoo in Sacred Games on Netflix?
Kukoo is a transgender bar dancer and cabaret singer.
She is living as a woman but was male at birth.
In the original novel, Kukoo plays a minor role, however the directors Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag Kashyap and the team of writers decided to bring the character of Kukoo to life.

Who is actress Kubra Sait in Sacred Games?
Born in Bengaluru, Kubra Sait is a model, actress, TV host and anchor with a degree in Finance and Marketing from the National Institute of Management and Information Sciences in India.
She has had a very successful career in public speaking and is considered as one of Asia’s most prolific public speakers, winning India’s best female Emcee Award.
Her Bollywood debut was alongside Salman Khan in Ready in 2011 and she also had a small role in the movie Sultan also starring Khan and Anushka Sharma.
Speaking to The DB Post about her new role, Sait said, “Playing Cuckoo was very liberating for me. Being a transgender in the ’80s she was extremely dynamic, gorgeous, and super powerful. She was the queen of Bombay”.
