Star Wars Episode 9 news: How is Carrie Fisher set to star in Star Wars after her death?

Star Wars wouldn’t be Star Wars without Leia.

The entire fandom was shaped by Carrie Fisher’s role as Princess Leia aka General Organa aka a spark of hope in the galaxy.

Fans were understandably distraught when she passed away and since that moment everyone has been wondering how, if, she would appear in Episode 9.

Here’s how it will happen.

The official release from Starwars.com detailed production of Episode 9 will use previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” said JJ Abrams, director of The Force Awakens and the upcoming Episode 9.

“Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us.

“We were never going to recast, or use a CG character,” he added.

“With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Billie Lourd, FIsher’s daughter, is also reprising her role in Episode 9.

Fisher’s reprisal has come as a salve to the fans who were left bereft after her death.

Fans can expect a heartfelt, respectful, and fitting send-off for the character Fisher made famous.

Hamill tweeted that the news is “bittersweet” as he spoke out on his own return to the saga.

Despite the fact that Luke Skywalker died (or was absorbed by the Force) at the end of The Last Jedi.

“It’s bittersweet facing my final chapter without her-She is simply irreplaceable,” he wrote.

Fisher’s brother, Todd, has spoken out about what he has seen of the “magical” new Leia scenes.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight Canada, he said: “My sister and Princess Leia are the same thing.

“And the idea of that story stopping and her not carrying forward is very disturbing to me…”

He added: “It is awesome that it worked out this way and, thanks to director JJ Abrams, this is going to be very magical and important to us all.”

Her role as Leia in the Star Wars franchise solidified her as one of the greats.

But it was Fisher’s her openness about mental health, addiction, and what it’s like being a woman in Hollywood which made her a feminist icon.

JJ Abrams has co-written the screenplay for Episode IX with Chris Terrio.

Terrio is known for his work on Justice League and Argo, starring Ben Affleck.

John Williams, the award-winning composer will return to compose the music for the final trilogy instalment.

Star Wars Episode IX is in cinemas Thursday, December 19 2019.
