Meghan Markle is increasingly wanting to “stay away” from Thomas Markle, it has been revealed by a source.
The father and daughter pair have not spoken since shortly after Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry, 33, earlier this year on 19 May.
Over this period, Thomas has conducted a number of interviews with the world’s media, including a number of UK platforms such as Good Morning Britain.
This behaviour has only served to estrange Meghan further from her father, according to a new interview.
“It has just become so embarrassing for Meghan. Like the elephant in the room when she’s with people she doesn’t know very well,” a source close to Meghan told DailyMail.com.
Meghan is said to be “frustrated” by Thomas’ harmful behaviour and refusal to take responsibility.
“What frustrates Meghan the most is that her father doesn’t seem to take responsibility for any his actions, as if he can do no harm, and everyone else is to blame.”
What’s more, this behaviour is driving his daughter “away” as it harms her and the royal family.
The source continued: “Well, he is harming her by putting down the royal family. He’s harming her by making everything public.
“And the more he speaks with the media, the more she wants to stay away. The more he blasts the royal family, the more she wants to stay away.”
The source went on to hint later on in the interview that Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, 62, might be compelled to step in.
This is despite Meghan’s apparent reluctance for her mother, who is still said to be close to her ex-husband Thomas, to intervene.
“So far, Meghan’s mom hasn’t gotten involved, but that may all change when they see each other in person. Meghan has been adamant that her mom not get dragged into all the drama.
“But if anyone can talk some sense into her dad, it’s Doria. Meghan is now open to the possibility of her mom working some magic behind the scenes.”
While Meghan and her father Thomas are currently not speaking to one another, according to reports, they were much closer when Meghan was a child.
In an interview with ELLE in 2016, Meghan described what her father had “taught” her in the past – including how to look good on camera.
She said: “He taught me to write thank you notes, to always arrive early, to drink Arnold Palmers [a non-alcoholic cocktail of lemonade and iced tea], to find my light when I’m on camera…and beyond.”
Meghan also opened up in the same interview on how Thomas has “invested” in her acting career when she was younger.
She said: “The blood, sweat and tears this man (who came from so little in a small town in Pennsylvania, where Christmas stockings were filled with oranges, and dinners were potatoes and spam) invested in my future so that I could grow up and have so much.
“He put gas in my car when I went from audition to audition trying to make it as an actress.
“He is the person who believed in this grand dream of mine well before I could even see it as a possibility.”
