Rangers news: Gerrard identifies next signing, Lafferty revelation, major injury blow

Worrall eyed

Steven Gerrard wants to make Joe Worrall his next summer signing.

The Daily Record claim the Rangers boss wants to bolster his defence before the end of the month.

And Nottingham Forest’s Worrall tops Gerrard’s wishlist.

On his transfer plans, Gerrard said: “I would like to get another body in that position. That will give me the luxury to change formation maybe or pull one of those two [Goldson and Katic] out to help them in terms of giving them a breather.”

Lafferty on return

Kyle Lafferty is desperate to shine at Rangers following his controversial exit in 2012.

The striker refused to join the club in the third division and was slammed by supporters for his decision.

However, Lafferty is ready to redeem himself under Steven Gerrard.

Speaking after his Rangers return, which was confirmed yesterday, he said: “I’ve supported them since I was a kid and I played here before but the way I left I was disappointed.

“Walking out those doors six or seven years ago it broke my heart but to be given a second chance to redeem myself and put things right i jumped at the chance and I’m happy to be home.

“Of course I always wanted to put things right and come here and show the fans what I’m all about but did I think I was going to get another chance? I didn’t.

“But I went to Hearts last season and had a good season and I’ve been given a second chance which I’m lucky to be given.

“Five or six weeks ago I heard but you hear things every single day so I just turned up for training, worked hard and scored goals but I’m here to today and I’m delighted.”

Murphy injury

Jamie Murphy has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Rangers attacker suffered knee ligament damage in Sunday’s 3-1 win at Kilmarnock.

On Murphy’s injury, Gerrard said: ”Jamie has been excellent for me since day one. We are trying to help him in every way we can.

“He is a huge player for us. I’m bitterly disappointed over it. He’s coming to terms with it now but at the beginning he was upset, as you can understand.”
