Forget your 4K TV – LG shows off stunning 88-inch 8K OLED TV at IFA 2018

The South Korean tech giant claimed the product is the world’s first that melds OLED technology with a 7680×4320 resolution.

Introducing the product, LG’s president of home entertainment, Brian Kwon, said: “LG’s first 8K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and the next evolutionary step in display technology.

“4K OLED played a major role in reshaping TV industry and LG is confident that 8K OLED will do the same.”

Although the tech firm has admitted 8K technology is still in its “infancy”, it appeared eager to show off the next generation of resolution.

LG claimed over 5million 8K televisions will have been sold by 2022.

Photos show the panel looking gargantuan and boasting incredible levels of clarity.

Bezels on the television are minimal, meaning jaw-dropping 8K content is touted front and centre.

The hardware features over 33 million self-emitting pixels that LG emphasised will make for incredible contrast ratios.

8K televisions promise to deliver double the resolution of 4K that is currently the highest standard available to consumers at relatively affordable prices.

4K boasts a resolution of 3840×2160 and has steadily amassed a plethora of media that can support it.

8K content is currently extremely limited but will surely surge as the high resolution panels are adopted more widely.

LG did not provide a price or release date for the colossal 8K television shown off at IFA 2018.

However, it surely will not be long before such a product is available to consumers.

IFA is an annual technology conference in Berlin that will run from August 31 to September 5 this year.

However ahead of the scheduled opening date companies usually display their latest and greatest products before exhibitors make their way to the show floor.
