The fifth season of The Flash is set to hit screens in less than a month, and Barry (played by Grant Gustin) is not going to have an easy year.
It was announced earlier this year that Flash will be pitted against a new villain – Cicada (Chris Klein).
The newcomer is determined to take down anyone who has ever been saved by the Flash, leaving Barry in a difficult situation.
And things are only going to get worse for him, as hinted at in the latest trailer for the upcoming season.
In the trailer Barry can be seen asking his daughter Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) where she came from and why.
But the trailer then cuts to Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) who is sitting in his house with Cicada stood behind him.
As one of the members of Central City who has been saved by Flash many times over, he is surely in danger.
After saving his fiancée Iris West (Candice Patton) from Savitar last season, he may now be forced to save his father in upcoming episodes.
But when he is tasked with helping out other members of the public, will Barry be able to keep everyone safe?
Later on in the trailer Barry ominously asks his daughter where he is in the future.
Her sombre look also hints that he may be looking at a dark future for himself, as she has not yet mentioned him in her story.
Speaking about the new characters joining the show, executive producer of the show Todd Helbing explained: “We always like to introduce characters and sort of highlight areas that come from the comics.
“We don’t want to be beholden exactly to them so we can change the stories as we see fit and tell it for a television show.”
He continued to detail Barry’s daughter, saying: “With [Nora], it’s the time that she comes from and what she did.
“She makes this sort of big mistake at the end of the episode – you see the concern of what she’s done, and Barry certainly learned his lessons from time travel.
“So now it’s going to be interesting to put him on the different side of the problem and see how he can help her fix it.”
With Barry facing a new collection of problems in the upcoming series, he is going to need all the help he can get.
However he is already down one ally, as Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) has disappeared, leaving Caitlin Snow wither her powers.
Does Cicada have something to do with Killer Frost’s disappearance?
The Flash begins October 9 on The CW.
