Flights for many passengers are a fairly unpleasant experience but spare a thought for this flier who was witness to a truly disgusting sight during their journey.
A photo has emerged of a scene allegedly spotted during a flight in which a child can be seen using a potty in the middle of the plane aisle.
In plain sight of everyone on board, the mother of the baby looks to be crouching next to the infant and holding them on the potty.
The shocking image was uploaded to Instagram where it’s been met with mixed reactions.
The Instagram account passengershaming which uploaded the snap described the reported alarming incident.
They urged parents to use the lavatory rather than a potty in the post.
“PRO TRAVEL PARENTING TIP: Use the lavatory for your child,” the uploader wrote.
“Parent brings own potty seat on board, sets it in aisle mid-flight to have child use (in front of everyone).
“When discovered by crew was advised she couldn’t do this & would need to utilise the unoccupied lavatory…and her reply…’I don’t give a s***!’(sic)”
The post added: “Obviously not shaming or identifying the child. But this literal s*** is happening out there, folks.”
It was not made clear in the post which airline the incident took place on where the fight was flying to or from.
The photo has now garnered nearly 9,000 likes on Instagram. Many social media users have criticised the mother.
“She should be banned from air travel for life that is just disgusting,” one Instagram user posted.”
“Revolting,” another person added while a third wrote: “Can you imagine how terrible this would be if all parents of young children started doing this?”
However, some people have defended the mother’s actions in allegedly letting the child use the potty so publicly.
“This is terrible, but I can imagine some issues that would require something like this,” one Instagram user commented.
“I once went on a flight with my 2.5-year-old daughter and took her to the lavatory when we entered the plane, but she got so terrified of the loud flushing noise the toilet made I could not get her anywhere near the lavatory for the rest of our flight, she needed to pee badly and got super nervous because of it, and in the end peed her pants…it was a nightmare!”
Another posted: “Can’t believe all the negative comments, would you prefer the poor child did it on the floor?!!!! Potty training is hard work!”
Flight attendants have previously warned against walking around the plane cabin barefoot due to disgusting toilet occurrences.
“Please do not ever walk into a toilet with bare feet,” one cabin crew member posted on a Reddit thread. “I promise you, nine times out of 10, that is not water on the floor.”
They added: “The toilets are often absolutely disgusting and get deep cleaned only at the end of a route.”
