Sharon Osbourne has admitted senior producers of The X Factor dropped her from the show after she criticised it during a foul-mouthed radio interview.
She was due to return for the live shows, but just weeks before Sharon was due to get behind the judging panel, during a headline-grabbing interview with radio DJ Howard Stern she called Simon Cowell a “fat faced mother f**ker” and joked about drowning him, before criticising the contestants.
Earlier this week (begs01Oct18), Sharon issued a statement saying she wasn’t coming back and it was her decision to quit the show, but she has now admitted in an interview with The Sun that top X Factor bosses called her after the radio chat and dropped her.
“They said, ‘We’re very upset about it’ and I said, ‘I’m sure you are, but you know the context of what it is,'” she said. “Anyway, I said do whatever you want…Then, about eight days after that, they called again to say, ‘We don’t think it’s going to work.'”
The 65-year-old said she felt “relieved” because it would be awkward to join the judging team – which also includes Robbie Williams, his wife Ayda Field, and Louis Tomlinson – halfway through the series.
However, shortly after, she had a call with Simon, who didn’t want her to leave and “was insistent” she come back, so they gave her a week to decide, but she realised the job wasn’t for her.
Sharon added that Simon was unbothered by her comments, recalling, “He just said, ‘I don’t care, darling, it’s all stupid'”
Ozzy Osbourne’s wife also admitted she will still be paid because she had to turn down “two other big shows” because of her contract with the show. She added, “I’m a businesswoman and they know they have to pay me. But I’m going to make a donation to Cancer Research.”
And she insisted she’s “all good” with Simon, and was later offered a role on Syco’s Australia’s Got Talent show, but she turned it down.
