Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Claudia Winkleman forced to apologise to audience

This year’s instalment of the BBC contest is once again being hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman and it’s already got off to a stirring start.

To mark Movie Week, the professionals on Strictly Come Dancing performed a routine to Singing In The Rain.

But the special water effects used the performance threatened to dampen the audiences members.

Subsequently, when Claudia appeared with Tess to kick off the show, she extended her apologies to those who may have been affected.

She announced: “A huge thank you to our professional dancers for the incredible routine.

“Apologies to the front row if you got a bit wet.”

Yesterday also saw the professionals tackle another movie-inspired performance.

The dancers wowed those watching at home with a magical Harry Potter themed dance.

Tonight’s result show saw another celebrity leave the show after failing to be saved by the judges.

It was Charles Venn and Lee Ryan who landed in the bottom two after the scores from the judges and viewers were added together.

Lee performed his routine to The Power of Love with partner Nadiya Bychkova while Charles re-did his dance to Up Where We Belong.

In the end it was Lee who was sent packing after Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood all voted to save Charles.

Although Shirley didn’t need to cast a vote she did say she would’ve saved Lee.

On his exit, Lee said: “I’ve had a really lovely time, even though it’s been short it seems like I’ve been here a long time because it’s been so intense, it’s been amazing.

“I love these guys, I absolutely love every single one of them.

“There’s so much love in everyone it’s been a memory that I will treasure for the rest of my life, I really will.”

It was clear some viewers weren’t ready to see Lee go as they took to Twitter to comment.

“Shocked! Lee you were fab!!!!! Shouldn’t have gone #strictly #strictlyLee,” one posted.

Another added: “Lee deserved to stay longer. No idea why he was in bottom two two weeks running. That must hurt #Strictly.”

“Sad to see Lee leave as he was trying really hard but thrilled @karen_hauer and @ChuckyVenn are through as they did not deserve to be in the dance off #strictly,” a third opined.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One.
