Last night (Tuesday, October 9) on The Great British Bake Off, the bakers were put through their paces during Vegan Week.
Unfortunately, one baker had to leave the competition for good.
Kim-Joy was awarded Star Baker but unfortuantely Jon Jenkins was sent home after failing to impress the judges.
Here’s what you missed.
Who left Bake Off last night?
Welshman Jon Jenkins left The Great British Bake Off last night.
He made it to the final six and narrowly missed getting to the qaurter finals.
He was one of the many contestants who failed to shine during Vegan week and his showstopper vegan celebraton cake failed to win them over.
After his exit, Jon said he was “immensely proud” of what he had achieved.
The trailer for next week shows the remaining five contestants wearing hawaiian shirts in honour of Jon.
Fans on twitter took to Twitter to praise the contestants after Jon’s shock exit.
One fan wrote: “OMG they’re all wearing Hawaiian shirts for @JonBakeHawaiian next week! My heart can’t handle this! @BritishBakeOff #GBBO #ILoveJon.”
There are only five contestants left and through to the qaurter-finals. They are:
What happened in Bake Off last night?
For the first time ever, Bake Off had a Vegan week.
The shows judges Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding got to pick a theme for the bakers.
Toviskig picked Danish week which will air next week and Fielding chose Vegan week.
To kick off, the six contestants had to make savoury tartlets without butter – four with one filling and four with another.
For the Technical Challenge, the bakers had to make meringues, replacing eggs with aquafaba.
Aquafaba is the name for the water which certain types of chickpeas are cooked in.
In a tin of chickpeas, aqaufaba is the water left in the can when you drain it, this is then used to replace eggs in many vegan recipes.
For the dreaded showstopper challenge, the bakers had to impress the judges with a vegan celebration cake that must be “inventive and visually exciting.”
