“Mythic automata appear in tales about Jason and the Argonauts”
Gods and Robots
Stanford University professor Dr Adrienne Mayor made the incredible assertion in her new book Gods and Robots.
In the work, she said Greek myths had numerous examples of so-called “modern technologies”.
These include artificial intelligence, driverless vehicles and robots.
An example of this was Talos, a giant bronze machine made to look like a human being, who was created by the God of craftsmen and metalworking, Hephaestus.
The American professor does, however, admits there is no way the Greeks would have been able to create the mythical beings.
Her book does argue though, that they were able to dream them up and think about the creatures in an abstract way.

“Mythic automata appear in tales about Jason and the Argonauts, Medea, Daedalus, Prometheus, and Pandora, and many of these machines are described as being built with the same materials and methods that human artisans used to make tools and statues.”
Gods and Robots by Adrienne Mayor is now available to purchase in the UK.
