Strictly Come Dancing: Claudia Winkleman's body language – she ‘hero-worships’ the show

Claudia Winkleman appeared on Strictly Come Dancing last night to present the hit BBC show.

Claudia has had a long career and has been a journalist, radio personality, film critic and model.

She is well known for the jokes she brings to the Strictly stage, but what does the presenter’s body language really say?

London-born Claudia helps make the show more universal with her comedy – and her body language doesn’t always prepare the audience for her jokes.

“Claudia is the woman who takes the ‘cheese’ out of Strictly, making it a show that still appeals to all ages and all levels of cynicism,” body language expert Judi James told

“On the surface her body language rituals do seem to mimic Tess’s, with the pair standing together to host using a pseudo-infantile re-motivational pose of hands drawn together in a semi-hand clasp that can only be described as tentative and ‘cute’ or even vulnerable, but with Claudia any ‘cuteness’ comes with a healthy side-order of humour and gentle sarcasm.”

Claudia is at her funniest when she gives no warning that she’s about to make a joke, according to Judi.

“Peering out from under her fringe she turns and squirms gently to let us know a funny quip is on its way,” said the expert.

“Although during her balcony interviews she can be even funnier delivering her lines without any body language warning that she’s about to make us laugh.”

Claudia’s body language also shows her heartfelt appreciation of Strictly as a show.

“Her comedy also comes with enough body language signals of hero-worship to show genuine respect for the show itself,” observed Judi.

“She doesn’t score points at its cost and she jokes with rather than at the contestants.”

It’s also clear that Claudia is well-liked by those competing in Strictly.

“When Rylan arrived on the balcony last night she smiled up at him like a smitten teenager and her bonding signals with the other celebrity dancers suggest she is genuinely popular with them backstage,” said Judi.

Claudia wore a sparkly jumpsuit last night to present the show which has attracted much attention.

The strappy jumpsuit featured a plunging neckline, showing off a hint of cleavage.

The outfit was particularly effective under the dazzling stage lights, causing Claudia to shimmer as she addressed the audience.

The Strictly presenter accessorised the jumpsuit with a red poppy pinned to the left of her chest.

Her hair was in a relaxed style and hung about her shoulders. As ever, Claudia sported her trademark fringe.

She also painted her nails in a fiery red for the Strictly show.
