The latest Red Dead Redemption 2 news before online beta
Red Dead Redemption 2 had a massive effect on what games were released during October.
And the early sales numbers show why many publishers chose to move their release dates to accommodate for the event.
Battlefield 5 switched to November, Black Ops 4 launched early, and now the sales numbers for October have been announced.
And before the release of the new Red Dead Online beta, we’ve learnt the good news and some of the surprises of the RDR2 launch.
The National Purchase Diary (NPD) for the United States has revealed some interesting data, including which game sold more last month.
This has been confirmed as Call of Duty Black Ops 4, although it should be noted that the new COD had a lot longer to rack up sales.
Black Ops 4 was also released on more platforms, with Red Dead Redemption 2 currently only available to buy on PS4 and Xbox One.
It’s more likely that Red Dead 2 will show some big sales numbers in November too, which is only good news for Rockstar Games.
With the Red Dead Redemption 2 Online beta releasing at the end of this month, Rockstar will be hoping for as big a player base as possible.
This will enable the development team to work out any bugs and server problems, while also preparing for the future.
Red Dead Online will be the way Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive will support RDR2 moving forward.
It’s expected that in-game optional microtransactions will create a new revenue stream, much like that of GTA Online.
NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella has also revealed some other interesting facts about the Red Dead Redemption 2 launch.
Red Dead 2 improved on its predecessor by selling three times the number of copies in the US in its launch month as the original RDR.
The Red Dead Online beta begins later this month
“With just nine days of reported sales, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the second best-selling game of October 2018 and is now also the second best-selling game year to date,” Piscatella reveals.
“Red Dead Redemption 2 launch month sales more than tripled those of the previous title in the series, Red Dead Redemption, which launched May 2010…
“Activision Blizzard was the highest revenue generating publisher for the month of October, while Take-Two Interactive has achieved the highest total revenue year to date,” said Piscatella.
So it looks like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Black Ops 4 were the main factors in gamers in the United States spending $1.545 billion in October.
And with the Red Dead Online beta just around the corner, revenues for Take-Two could start climbing very quickly.
A recent leak suggests that some kind of trailer will be released, providing a glimpse at what Red Dead Online will be like.
It’s unclear when this will go live, but it’s hoped it will be soon.
And whenever it does go live, the Red Dead Online beta is a project that will have a large audience to test it out.
