Manchester City host Liverpool at the Etihad tonight knowing a win will move Pep Guardiola’s side within four points of the Premier League leaders.
Liverpool thumped Arsenal 5-1 at the weekend but experienced a humbling 5-0 defeat to City in this fixture last season and Pep Guardiola’s men will hope for a repeat performance.
However, they will likely have to do so without Kevin De Bruyne after the Belgian picked up a muscle problem which ruled him out of the win over Southampton at the weekend.
When asked about the playmaker’s availability, Guardiola said: “He trained today but tomorrow we need another check in the morning.
“He’s much better.”
Ilkay Gundogan is available once again after missing the win over Saints but Fernandinho is expected to start, having returned from injury last time out.
David Silva and his namesake Bernardo are likely to feature alongside the Brazilian in midfield while Kyle Walker and John Stones should come back into the side.
Guardiola has a selection headache at left-back with Benjamin Mendy still recovering from knee surgery and Fabian Delph serving a suspension.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is most likely to deputise, having started there against Southampton, although Danilo is another option.
Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero is expected to continue up front and will look to extend his record of scoring in every home match against Liverpool.
The Argentinian is set to be flanked by Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane after Riyad Mahrez got the nod last time out.
A victory would be Guardiola’s 100th in charge of the club, with the three points helping City leapfrog Tottenham into second.
