One of the most popular kinds of diet plans are those which eliminate carbs. Low carb diets such as the Atkins diet have been a fixture of healthy eating for many years. This latest diet has bombed in popularity this January. Will you try the keto diet?
The keto diet, also known as the ketogenic diet, is a high-fat low-carb plan. It aims to put the body in a different metabolic state.
This state means the body burns fat instead of sugar for fuel.
This means that those following the diet must avoid carbohydrates.
By removing sugar from the diet the body is forced to rely on fat.
DietDoctor.com states: “A keto diet is a very strict low-carb diet, containing less than 20 grams of net carbs per day, and thus it tends to be highly effective.”
A recent study showed how on average subjects lost 13.5kg, just over two stone, in six months.
