Chris Evans, who returned to the airwaves yesterday as he launched his new Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, spoke out about Peter Kay after he was pictured out and about. The DJ questioned whether the comedian would be in attendance at the NTAs 2019 this evening, after being nominated for Car Share. The 52-year-old claimed the TV star, 45, was “back with us” after cancelling his stand-up tour last year. He was seen for the first time in public last week following his surprise for fans at a charity Car Share screening last April.
Chris commented: “On the front page of the Star, Peter Kay back for a gong, perhaps tonight with the National Television Awards.
“Peter Kay has been seen out and about, god bless him, he is better. He’s back with us and will he be on the tele tonight?”
The star then went on: “And… we could ask him – Frothy Coffee Man has his number. Yeah we could ask him, go on then!
“The Frothy Coffee Man is so out of sorts this morning, because Frieda Pinto’s coming in and he can’t contain himself.”
He was referring to his assistant Hiten Vora, who often helps Chris with his charity events.
Car Share is nominated for best comedy at the NTAs 2019, up against Benidorm, Mrs Brown’s Boys, Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father and The Big Bang Theory.
It comes after Peter was spotted in Bolton, dressed casually in black jeans and a hoodie, wrapping up warm in a black coat and hat.
He looked to be in good spirits as he braved the chilly temperatures.
Back in April, he delighted the audience by making an unexpected appearance at the Blackpool Opera House when they showed the final episodes of season two in aid of the Lily Foundation.
To cheers from the crowd, he said: “Thank you very much for supporting the Lily Foundation, raising money fro mitochondrial disease.
“It’s very kind of you, I appreciate it.”
In December 2017, Peter cancelled his tour and all other work commitments.
He said in a statement: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.
“This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.”
Peter added: “This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family always come first.”
The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio UK weekdays from 6.30am.
