In fact, Windows is used by the majority of computers around the world that are not manufactured by Apple Inc.
Windows 10 typically receives substantial updates from Microsoft twice a year.
In 2018 these arrived in April and October respectively.
Before the tech giant releases new versions to all users, it debuts early builds of Windows 10 to those that are part of its Insider programme.
Windows 10 Insider preview builds typically provide fans with an early glimpse into forthcoming features.
It is presumed Microsoft will release the next substantial version of Windows 10, codenamed 19H1, in April.
This means it may only be a few months before the next iteration of the software is available.
However, Microsoft has already started releasing preview builds for 19H1, giving an early glimpse into new functionality it will contain.
The newest preview build for the operating system, 18329, contains a score of new additions that make the software more intuitive.
First and foremost, Microsoft has added a new “top apps” feature that is present in Search Home.
The American tech giant has insisted the tool will allow users to open their favourite apps faster.
Microsoft said: “Get quick access to the apps that you use the most, just open Search Home and you’ll see them under Top apps—no typing required! One more way Search helps you find the things you need.
“This change is rolling out server-side, so you may see it outside the bounds of this flight. Stay tuned for more improvements.”
Moreover, Microsoft also insisted it is improving its dark mode by bringing support for the theme to Mail and Calendar items.
This means the viewing mode will now be seamless across more parts of the operating system such as composing windows for instance.
The firm went on: “Dark mode now extended to Mail and Calendar items: Building on our previous release of Dark mode in Mail and Calendar, we have extended our dark UI to more parts of our app.
“With this update, Dark mode now works when composing a new message, updating a calendar item or reading your email.
“This helps provide a calmer reading experience for people that work in a low light environment or just prefer screens that are less bright, and helps to reduce eye strain.”
In order for Windows 10 fans to turn on dark mode, they should head to settings > personalisation.
An option to enable dark mode should then be available.
A number of other improvements in the newest Insider preview build include the ability to run desktop apps in Windows Mixed Reality and support for ADLaM and Osage keyboards.
