PS5 news: Big PS4 games news revealed ahead of PlayStation 5 update

Backwards Compatibility is a much-wanted feature for the PS5, which has yet to be announced by Sony.

And in a new update this week, it appears PS4 gamers will be getting some form of it, even if it wasn’t the kind they were hoping for.

It’s still unclear whether PlayStation will be offering a form backwards compatibility for the PS5 release date.

Fans are hungry to see it, and new patents suggest that Sony has the means to bring PS4 games and titles from other generations to their new console.

However, until the tech giant announces their plans for the PlayStation 5, most this will remain speculation.

However, we do know about a few PS4 games that will boast some kind of backwards compatibility on the PS5.

BioWare, the developers behind Anthem, have confirmed they want to make it possible to do something like this in the future.

The new title is planning years of content support and being an online service; it will look to be available on the PS5.

And it appears that fans can bet on save transfers to be available from PS4 to the PS5.

BioWare’s Head of Live Service Chad Robertson hinted at the news on Twitter, following a question being asked about the new consoles being released.

“Will you be able to carry over save files when upgrading to next-gen consoles?” one fan asked Robertson, who replied: “Always…”

There was no direct mention made regarding the PS5, but it’s fair to say that it was implied, being that Anthem is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC only.

This fits in with a recent roadmap shared of how Anthem is set to expand in the coming months.

“Anthem is designed to be a living, changing world so that your experience constantly evolves over time,” a message from BioWare explains.

“What you’ll play at launch involves a substantial storyline, but the end of that story is really just the beginning of the ongoing adventures you’ll have in Anthem.

“We will be continuously supporting Anthem with new content, features, and quality-of-life fixes. Those will be delivered through a series of updates called “Acts”, which advance Anthem’s storylines through new locations, gameplay features, character interactions, and more.

“Act 1 begins in March, and will culminate in a Cataclysm – a world-changing, time-limited event that comes with extreme weather, dangerous new enemies, and new mysteries to solve. What will happen in future Acts?”

So if the recent reports prove true and the PS5 is set to be released in 2020, that will mean plenty of new content will be awaiting fans by then.
