Star Wars fans are amongst some of the most dedicated fans around. This dedication has manifested in both positive and negative ways. But for some, a new Star Wars event coming to London may help to pass the time.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back at Royal Albert Hall
Entire generations of fans missed out on the opportunity to see The Empire Strikes Back in cinemas.
But now, fans young and old will have the chance to see the film with a live orchestra, bringing John Williams’ iconic score to life.
As part of their Films In Concert series, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is getting the live orchestra treatment at the Royal Albert Hall.
The announcement comes today, while fans are still waiting for the title of Episode 9.
Williams’ scores for the eight saga films are some of the most widely recognised movie scores.
Throughout Star Wars, Williams’ music utilises a symphony orchestra and features recurring musical themes.
These represent characters and other plot elements and is one of the largest caches of themes in the history of film music.
In September 2019, the Philharmonia Orchestra will bring his score to a live audience.
Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall Lucy Noble said in a press release: “We were delighted to host the UK premiere of Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert last year, one of the most requested films in the ten years that we’ve been hosting Films in Concert.
“We’re ecstatic that Star Wars is coming back this year, with the most critically-acclaimed and musically ground-breaking movie in the series.”
Star Wars Episode 9 is still awaiting its title, though principal photography recently wrapped.
Episode 9’s director JJ Abrams took to Instagram to alert the masses to the end of the saga.
He wrote: “It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX.
“There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all.”
Fans are full of anticipation ahead of Episode 9’s release on December 19, 2019.
Tickets for Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back with live orchestra are on sale at 9 am on Friday, February 22 from the Royal Albert Hall website.
