His wife broke the sad news to fans, saying: “The family is devastated to announce that this morning George Segal passed away due to complications from bypass surgery.”
Abe Hoch, Segal’s former manager and friend, added: “I am saddened by the fact that my close friend and client of many years has passed away.
“I will miss his warmth, humor, camaraderie and friendship. He was a wonderful human.”

He accompanied his post with some humorous yet tear-jerking photos of Segal’s career high points, including receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fellow actress Wendi McLendon-Covey, who plays boisterous mum Beverly Goldberg, shared a heart-warming snap of her and her on-screen dad embracing, with the simple caption that read “grateful”, alongside a crying emoji.
His passing appeared to hit many others hard too, with fans sharign fond memories of their favourite shows and clips where the actor’s talent shone bright.
One wrote: “Chills are running through my body. I wish we celebrated lovely people more like you celebrate George. I’m certain the loss will be massive on set and in the cast and crews heart’s. George Segal, legend,” one said.
