Previously, at the birth of Prince George, he stood outside the hospital and quipped about the lack of news.

Simon began his career as a reporter at the Fleet Street News Agency before he joined Thames Television as a researcher.

He went on to become a news editor at ITV’s breakfast channel, TV-am.

He also joined Sky when it launched in 1989, working as a producer and reporter before becoming the channel’s Royal Correspondent for five years. 

Simon has since gone on to be an anchor, reporter and newsreader for various programmes including BBC News 24, BBC Breakfast and Afternoon Live.
