Forget PS Now, Sony reportedly working on Xbox Game Pass for PS5 and PS4

Forget PS Now, Sony reportedly working on Xbox Game Pass for PS5 and PS4

The PS Now service has been linked to an impressive new expansion, while Sony also reportedly has big plans for PS4 and PS5 consoles.

According to the latest reports, an Xbox Game Pass rival could be coming to PlayStation gaming machines.

While the Xbox Game Pass and PS Now service might seem similar, the Sony service doesn’t deal with day-one launches or provide as many direct download titles.

PS Now is mostly geared toward streaming on PC and PlayStation consoles and receives new games each month, much like PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass.

For now, the Xbox Game Pass provided a great winning formula for Microsoft to sell its new consoles.

Buy an Xbox Series X with a full Game Pass subscription, and you suddenly have a lot of titles to try out and enjoy.

The Xbox Game Pass remains quite unique in terms of a service, so it would make sense that Sony would want to create something like it.

A new report doing the rounds on the internet is that Sony is building its own counterweight to the Xbox Game Pass.

A YouTube stream spotted by VGC includes God of War developer, David Jaffe, revealing that Sony might be working on a “counterpunch” to Xbox Game Pass.

This didn’t include much in the way of concrete fact regarding how a new service will work or when it might come out.

But such news could prove very popular among gamers looking to decide between a PS5 and Xbox Series X.

He admitted he didn’t know what form the service would take, nor does it sound like he knows when there will be an announcement.

And like with all rumours and reports, this should be taken with a big pinch of salt before hearing more from Sony.

Gamers have been discussing the subject online, pointing out that PS Now and PS Plus could be rolled into one, with fans adding:

“They just need to roll PSNow and PS+ into one and call it something like Sony Game Passport (or hopefully something catchier).

Another reads: “A curious nuance of this competition is that PS Now is built on Azure. There’s basically no way that Sony could get a performance improvement over Game Pass if they’re relying on MS technology to make their platform.

“The only differentiator is content, and Sony doesn’t have the cash to throw together the massive catalog that MS seems intent on. PS Now is going to live and die by Sony’s first-party catalog.”

Until we hear more on Sony’s plans, these are the next games coming to the Xbox Game Pass:
