Tottenham[1] boss Jose Mourinho[2] will face off against his old club Manchester United[3] on Sunday in what could be a must-win clash for his chances of keeping his job.

Mourinho will reportedly be fired by Spurs chief Daniel Levy if Tottenham fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Spurs are on a dire run of form, and it seems Mourinho is having a tough job of getting his players to turn up for him.

Tottenham were dumped out of the Europa League in humiliating fashion by Dinamo Zagreb last month, and defeat this Sunday could open the door for Liverpool[4] and Everton[5] to leapfrog them in the table.

Mourinho has an unfortunate history of having players rebel against him and rumours of unrest in the dressing room.

When he was at United, Mourinho was constantly plagued with reports that members of the squad had given up on his tactics.

Speaking after his final defeat with the Red Devils – a 3-1 loss at the hands of runaway league leaders Liverpool – he was asked about whether he felt that the players were playing for him, to which he had a furious response.

“What is that? Play for me?” He asked. “Are you calling the players dishonest?

“I believe they are honest and you believe they are dishonest.

“A football player has to give his all every game, every minute. It doesn’t matter the manager, doesn’t matter anything.

“The club pays him, the fans that are 24 hours per day in love with the club, it’s a respect for the club.

“If the players don’t do the maximum you call them dishonest.

“I don’t call them dishonest at all. Liverpool is a better team, we cannot compare their intensity, their physicality.”

The same issue is now troubling him at Spurs, with the boss reportedly even launching an investigation to find the ‘mole’ within his dressing room who was leaking out information.

A report in The Athletic[7] recently claimed that multiple Tottenham players were unhappy with training sessions put on by Mourinho.

Harry Kane, often regarded as one of Mourinho’s most loyal players, has even expressed a desire to leave this summer if Champions League football isn’t delivered, reports suggest.

It seems Mourinho is quickly running out of time to get his players back onside in north London and save himself from falling into the same trap he did at Old Trafford.
