PS Plus May 2021 free games update ahead of PlayStation Plus reveal

The PS Plus May reveal is coming this week, and gamers can already enjoy one of 2020’s biggest PS4 and PS5 releases for free.

While there are plenty of freebies available via PlayStation Plus, this latest one comes from a third-party developer.

As subscribers wait to find out what PS4 free games are being added to the list next month, they can jump in and test out Call of Duty Cold War Season 3.

Launched last week, the new season brings a collection of fresh weapons, maps and modes across multiplayer and Zombies. This new free access period is available a number of platforms but you will need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

A message from Activision explains: “Players can jump into a large selection of Multiplayer and Outbreak content as part of Free Access. This is the perfect opportunity to try out plenty of the new Season Three content in Black Ops Cold War, including new maps, playlists, weapons, and more.

“We’re throwing open the doors for Free Access players to experience everything Multiplayer has to offer, from the large scale Multi-Team Moshpit to the classic Nuketown 24/7 grind.

“Jump into the intensity of 3v3 Faceoff with some friends, or ease into the old standards Team Deathmatch and Domination.

“Free Access also includes the just-added Yamantau and Diesel Multiplayer maps. Fight through the crumbled remains of a Soviet observatory on snowy Mt. Yamantau, and battle it out in 6v6 and 2v2 on Diesel, featuring a deserted gas station in the New Mexico desert.

“Load up Yamantau 24/7 while you’re at it and master the new map. All of the new Outbreak content will be open to play in Zombies, too.

“In Outbreak, up to four Requiem agents are tasked with exploring massive regions of the Ural Mountains while fighting off the undead.

“Work together to complete dangerous experiments and other objectives that are sure to lead to more loot, new enemies, and the next daunting Dark Aether portal.”

The good news is that this free access period is going to be available until Wednesday, April 28 at 6pm BST.

And this will be around the same time we find out what the new PS Plus free games collection for May will include.

Assuming Sony doesn’t break with tradition, the next batch of PlayStation Plus games will be unveiled at 4.30pm BST on April 28. The games will be available to download less than a week later on May 4.

If this year’s list of PS Plus free games are anything to go by, then May 2021 could be another great month for free games.

In 2021, subscribers have already been treated to the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Days Gone, Oddworld Soulstorm, Destruction All-Stars, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Control: Ultimate Edition.

There’s already been plenty of new content to download and play, with interesting PS5 content available alongside PS4.

One game that won’t feature in the May 2021 PS Plus line-up is Horizon Zero Dawn, which is currently free as part of the Play at Home scheme.

Horizon Zero Dawn is also available on the PlayStation Now service, with new games being added to that subscription service around the same time as PS Plus.
