How to book Covid tests from Tui, Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2 and Boots for half the price

Holidays: Britons share concerns about international travel

Travel rules are changing from Monday (May 17) and holidays are permitted to 12 green list countries including Portugal, Gibralter and Australia. Holidaymakers returning from any country will be required to take at least two Covid tests.
Testing rules for countries within each ‘traffic light’ list are as follow:

Green countries:

· Pre-departure Covid test three days before returning – must be negative to enter the UK

· PCR Covid test on or before day two after returning to the UK

Amber countries:

· Pre-departure Covid test three days before returning – must be negative to enter the UK

· PCR Covid test on or before day two after returning to the UK

· PCR Covid test on day eight after returning to the UK

· Travellers must self-isolate at home for 10 days after returning – can ‘test to release’ on day five if negative

Red countries:

· Pre-departure Covid test three days before returning – must be negative to enter the UK

· PCR Covid test on or before day two after returning to the UK

· PCR Covid test on day eight after returning to the UK

· Travellers must quarantine in a specified hotel for 10 days – no ‘test to release’ is available

All travellers are required to complete a passenger locator form before travelling abroad.

The Government has not specified whether the pre-departure Covid test should be a PCR or Lateral Flow so you should always check the testing requirements of your holiday destination.

But when you return to the UK, you will be required to take the PCR test, not the Lateral Flow test.

The Government is asking holidaymakers to book a private Covid test at their own expense rather than using the NHS testing service.

A list of private providers of PCR coronavirus tests is available on the government’s website. Prices range from £150 to £350 for a testing kit.

Luckily, some airline providers are offering Covid tests in their holiday packages at discounted rates.
