Producers have now introduced duty of care protocols for each contestant entering the villa to protect their mental health.

But former Good Morning Britain anchor Piers Morgan has hit back at the decision, insisting that it is the contestant’s choice to go in the villa and they should understand the effects of that.

In another rant on Twitter, he said: “My advice would be much simpler to any prospective Love Island contestants: if you can’t stand the heat, don’t go into the kitchen.

“Nobody’s forcing these people to go on TV and cavort around in no clothes having sex with like-minded dimwits.”

And his bold statement seemed to generate a lot of agreement.

One user said: “My advice would be not to do this programme at all. It’s all just sensationalism and 15 mins of fame… b***** the mental health of these young things as long as the viewing figures are high!”

Another added: “It’s appalling that this show has been allowed to be back on TV. Three people who were involved with the show have committed suicide. ITV and anyone affiliated with it are just interested in profiteering.”

Another said: “Love island used to be like that. Now it’s just a vehicle for them to stand around looking pretty and boost their Instagram followers.”

One individual disagreeing with Piers said: “They as a show have a lot of experience with people associated with the show committing suicide.

“I think they don’t want that to happen again so they are putting measures in place to stop that happening.”
