The COVID Cards feature is only available in the US to start with, but will be rolled out to other countries.
COVID cards will display the name of the patient, the type of vaccine they received and the dates of the doses.
It will also show a QR code and display further details – such as the provider of the vaccine and the lot number for the dose.
Google also said: “The user’s COVID vaccination and test information is stored on their Android device. If a user wants to access this information on multiple devices, the user will need to manually store it on each device. Google does not retain a copy of the user’s COVID vaccination or test information.”
Google said that COVID cards are not shared by Google with its various services or third parties and it’s not used for ads.
They also said a lock screen is required to use the COVID Card feature.
This is for added security and to protect personal information.
