UFO mania: Startling poll finds majority of Americans believe alien ETs are real

A Pew Research Center poll has concluded about two-thirds of Americans believe alien life exists somewhere out there among the stars. UFO mania has swept across the US in recent months thanks to the US Pentagon publishing its highly anticipated report on UFO sightings. Although the report did not validate the existence of extraterrestrials – as many hoped – it did not outright deny this possibility and that is a big deal in and of itself.

The Pew Research Center carried out is poll just before the Pentagon report was published, and examined America’s attitudes towards ETs.

The survey of more than 10,400 Americans asked questions about the existence of aliens and the possibility of ETs visiting our planet.

About 65 percent of those surveyed, said intelligent life exists somewhere on other planets.

Only 34 percent said alien life “does not” exist on other planets and a mere two percent refused to answer the question.

The survey then asked whether UFOs reported by people in the military are evidence of alien life.

This time around, 51 percent answered affirmatively – 40 percent said “probably” and 11 percent said “definitely”.

The majority, however, appeared sceptical towards the idea with 47 percent of people disagreeing.

About 36 percent said “probably not” and 11 percent said “definitely not” to the question.

Once again, two percent of those surveyed refused to answer the question.

Once again, three percent of those surveyed refused to answer the question.

The pollsters then asked surveyees whether UFOs hold hostile attitudes.

Interestingly enough, an astounding 74 percent said they are neither hostile nor friendly.

Only 17 percent guessed UFOs are friendly and seven percent said the opposite.

The survey of 10,417 US adults was conducted between June 14 and June 24 – one day before the Pentagon report was published.

The Pew Research Center said: “The survey is weighted to be representative of the US adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories.”

The Pew Research Center has also examined Americans’ attitudes towards UFOs based on age.

Survey results show younger Americans are more likely to believe aliens are alive on other planets.

For instance, 76 percent of people in the 18 to 28 age group, believe in intelligent life beyond Earth, compared to just 56 percent in the 65+ group.
