San Antonio man dies from suspected drowning at Corpus Christi beach, officials say

Authorities have identified a San Antonio man who died from a suspected drowning on the Fourth of July in Corpus Christi. 

Television station KIII reported officials found Rene Pecina, 51, unconscious at North Beach on Sunday. Emergency units transported Pecina to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Pecina is the third reported person from San Antonio to die while swimming on the Texas coast beaches. Last Wednesday, father-and-son Richard Allen Mireles, Jr., 47, and Nicholas Austin, 19, drowned while at Port Aransas.

Richard died trying to save his son, according to the Port Aransas Police Department. Authorities found Nicholas’ body days later along the shore. Friends of the family created a GoFundMe page to help them cover funeral costs. The page has raised more than $ 43,000 as of Tuesday morning.
