Black Widow hit cinemas today and concludes the story of Marvel Cinematic Universe hero Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett). The character was last seen during Avengers Endgame when she sacrificed herself to retrieve the Soul Stone on the distant planet of Vormir. The events of Black Widow take place between two previous films – Captain America: Civil War and Avengers Infinity War – filling in the gaps of Natasha’s story in the process. During the film, Yelena Bulova (Florence) is introduced, the next potential Black Widow in the MCU.
During Black Widow’s World Premiere Fan Event in London, Florence arrived on stage to thank the fans for welcoming her into the series.
She told the audience: “When I joined the MCU two years ago, obviously, it’s a no-brainer – of course you want to be a part of this world and this family! And of course, you want to play a character like Yelena.”
The newcomer to the series plays another Black Widow agent, just like Natasha, who battles alongside her “sister” to defeat a force of evil.
After all is said and done, viewers were given a great introduction to Yelena’s character while being reminded of Natasha’s mortality.
Black Widow’s death has sparked rumours Yelena will be taking over as the next spy for the Avengers – something Florence alluded to.
She continued: “The moment I was on board I was like: Oh my god. Now I have a lot to work up to.
“And now I have a lot of work to do!”
She then touched upon the huge history of Yelena’s character, adding: “There are a lot of fans that this character means something to.
“I’ve been waiting for this day for a really long time.”
What do you think?
Should Yelena Bulova take over as the next Black Widow?

Last year director of Black Widow, Cate Shortland, also teased Yelena taking over from Natasha after the film’s credits had rolled.
Cate said: “[Marvel boss Kevin Feige] realised that the audience would expect an origin story so, of course, we went in the opposite direction.
“And we didn’t know how great Florence Pugh would be. We knew she would be great, but we didn’t know how great.
“Scarlett is so gracious, like: ‘Oh, I’m handing her the baton.’ So it’s going to propel another female storyline.” (Via Empire)
Cate also touched upon the death of Natasha that occurred in 2019.
She said: “In Endgame, the fans were upset that Natasha did not have a funeral. Whereas Scarlett, when I spoke to her about it, said Natasha wouldn’t have wanted a funeral.
“She’s too private, and anyway, people don’t really know who she is. So what we did in this film was allow the ending to be the grief the individuals felt, rather than a big public outpouring. I think that’s a fitting ending for her.”
Black Widow is in cinemas now and arrives on Disney Plus with Premier Access on Friday.
