Carol Kirkwood, 58, revealed she was left “feeling sick” after she tried out some advice given to her by former BBC Breakfast colleague Bill Turnbull. And it’s safe to say she never acted on that piece of guidance again.
It comes after the weather presenter appeared on co-star Louise Minchin and Annie Emmerson’s Her Spirit Podcast, where she discussed waking up in the middle of the night to prepare for the working day.
Having to awaken before three in the morning, it’s a wonder to many how Carol can still function daily.
And even she admitted it’s something she’s never got used to, despite her many years as a meteorologist delivering the early morning weather news.
It promoted her to think of some advice she was given by Bill, who thought he’d try and help her out a little in order to combat feeling sleepy at work.
“I remember Bill Turnbull telling me, ‘You should have a snooze when you get in,’ like a power snooze!” she recalled.
“And I tried doing that but it made me feel sick!
“When I got up, I was then worried I wouldn’t sleep in the evening, which was exactly what happened.”
She sighed, adding: “It just didn’t work.”
And while the upsides of working early may be plentiful, there are some downsides too.
“The only thing is, you feel like you’re missing out in the evening socially,” Carol said, as she told hosts Louise and Annie that she aims to be in bed by 8pm.
“When you hear everybody else having a nice time, going to the pub by the river or something, you’re like, ‘I’d like to do that!’
“But you can’t have it always,” she shrugged.
