An iPhone makes gaming so much easier than playing on a PlayStation and Xbox because it can be carried around in every pocket or purse. However, this convenience does come at a cost for many of those who grew up with touchscreens.
Some games simply work better when played with a controller. Fortnite can be played with a touchscreen. Many people have done so. This can’t be as accurate as using analog sticks to aim, although it is more precise than using a keyboard and mouse. However, something is always better than nothing. If you happen to have a wireless Xbox controller, it’s easy to connect it with an iPhone. This is how it works.
First, make sure that you have the correct controller
Although it may sound obvious, you will need an Xbox controller compatible with iOS in order to play mobile games. The support site for Apple lists four Xbox controllers, however, it’s not very simple. These controllers are a must-have.
You may be curious about the model 1708 designation for the first option. This distinction is because controllers shipped with Xbox One’s launch in 2013, didn’t come equipped Bluetooth technology. Microsoft did not include Bluetooth functionality in Xbox One controllers before the Xbox One S redesign was released in 2016. If you own an older Xbox One controller it will not work with your iPhone.
The photo shows that you can identify which controller is the Xbox logo by the surrounding plastic. Bluetooth is if it shares the same texture plastic as the parts with analog sticks and face buttons, then it may have Bluetooth. It does not have Bluetooth if it has the same texture as the triggers and plastic around the buttons.
Simply put, an Xbox controller purchased after 2016 is fine. You should upgrade if you don’t have one. This is the best part about connecting an Xbox controller with an iPhone.

You’ll probably know that Xbox controllers can be connected to iPhones using Bluetooth. You probably know the basics of pairing an Xbox controller with your iPhone via Bluetooth if you have ever used Bluetooth to connect anything to your iPhone. This is the same process as connecting Bluetooth speakers or headphones.
To turn on the controller, hold the Xbox logo button. To put the controller in pairing mode, you will need to hold down the Bluetooth pairing button. It is located between the shoulder buttons and the Xbox logo button. Navigate to Bluetooth in the Settings app for iPhone. Scroll down until the controller is listed on the available pairing devices.
It will pair with your smartphone if you tap it. You see? It’s easy. In case you weren’t aware, you can also do this with the PlayStation controller. The controller’s compatibility with your favourite games may vary, but they should support it! Congratulations on a new world of precise controls for mobile games.
