Phelps was most likely the last swimmer to compete in the Olympics. After the 2012 Olympics, he retired again. However, he was back for the 2016 Rio Games.
His triumphant return was a success. He won five gold medals, including two in individual events. And he also added a silver to his collection. He announced his resignation once more after the end of the games. This retirement, now at 36 years of age seems certain to be permanent.
