Bungie’s Destiny 2 is still a huge success. However, the studio doesn’t want to stop there. It’s hiring talent for an IP which is most likely not Destiny 3. It appears that the new Bungie game, possibly called “Matter”, will also be free to play.
Bungie has posted this week a job posting (thanks to The Game Post), for a senior market manager who will be working on a new studio IP. Bungie has begun to look into marketing and this new position is expected to help drive sales and awareness for its next Bungie IP.
Although the job description doesn’t reveal too much, it does ask for applicants who have “experience with enterprise scale live operations, games, mobile, MMOs, F2P and mobile” if they aren’t working on a new game.
Bungie had filed in 2018 a trademark application for the name ‘Matter’, a brand new videogame. It also included a distinctive logo. Bungie was just entering into a partnership of $100 million with NetEase. At that time, the studio stated it would support “many universes simultaneously” (Destiny and future worlds). This strongly suggested that the new IP was in development.
It seems unlikely that Destiny 3 is going to be available anytime soon with all of the major expansions for Destiny 2. However, it’s possible that Matter or any other Bungie IP will release it first. It’s possible that it will be revealed next month at Bungie’s Destiny 2 showcase.
