Und Undertale is also there.
Another month means a fresh batch of additions to Sony’s PlayStation Now service, with August’s offerings now confirmed to be Nier: Automata, Ghostrunner, and Undertale.
Automata, the most prominent eye-catcher of Nier’s action-RPG from Platinum Games is likely to be number one. The second Nier release by creator Yoko Taro – following the dismal adventures of androids 2B & 9S – is just as atmospheric as its predecessor. It combines Platinum’s hack-and-slash gameplay with plenty genre-busting surprises, as it layers out.
“Those searching for an endlessly imaginative dreamlike journey,” wrote Jeffrey Matulef in his Recommended review, “will find Nier: Automata too mesmerising to look away from.
Ghostrunner is a solo, intensely acrobatic sci-fi adventure that features first-person parkour as well as blistering sword play. The protagonist of Ghostrunner’s cyborg ninja cyborg racer scales the heights of a neon-streaked Cyberpunk Skyscraper. Eurogamer’s Robert Purchase was mightily impressed when it came out last year, awarding it a Recommended badge and calling it a “joy to play”.
Toby Foxy’s RPG Undertale is a cult favorite that follows the adventures and misadventures of a young child when he falls into an unknown world below the surface. The game is full of heartfelt humor and willful idiosyncrasy, and has been reprinted many times over the years.
“Undertale dances happily in the footsteps of Shigesato Itoi’s Mother series,” said Eurogamer’s Martin Robinson when he reviewed the PlayStation Vita version back in 2017, “and like those games before it, it’s a JRPG that’s endlessly playful and inventive.”
PlayStation Now will have all three titles available from Wednesday, 3 August. Only Nier Automata is exempted. The service will be ending on the 1st of November.
