This Tuesday sees the release of a pretty unusual game, even by our standards – Clid The Snail, a gritty top-down shooter starring a grumpy snail fighting against killer slugs. It’s currently a PS4/PS5 only game. However, this description should have you interested.
Clid The Snail has been described as an innovative top-down shooter with story focus and careful Dark Souls-esque combat. There are also puzzles and mechanics that must be solved. Clid has a team of “shy hedgehogs, shaman turtles, mute bats, and a Ninja Frog”. This list makes it more appealing to us.
Unfortunately, we won’t get the chance to do so for quite some time. While Clid The Snail (we even love typing that) is out for PlayStation consoles on August 31, it’s not coming to PC until “late 2021” – although the game’s Steam page is up already. It costs PS15.99/$19.99/EUR19.99 on PS4/PS5, so expect the price to be similar when the game comes out on PC.
Clid The Snail was actually the Game of the Year and Best Art winner at the 2019 Spanish PlayStation Talents Awards, which supports indie developers in Spain. PlayStation contributed EUR10,000 to the development of the game, along with marketing and promotion support. Clid will be available on Steam in November/December.
Clid The Snail is a game that stars a snail, possibly the greatest since Braid-like Chronology. It’s also one of the most interesting indie games this year.
