Barcelona is reportedly engaged in advanced negotiations to sign Edinson-Cavani, but Manchester United still needs to work with them to close a deal. This seems unlikely. It is not clear if the Red Devils will allow El Matador to leave during this phase of the transfer window, even with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cavani is still part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans. He made his debut in the new season at Wolves with the score of 1-0 after having completed his quarantine.
But, Cavani could move on today and Ronaldo would be able to take back his iconic No7 shirt.
Mixed reports have come in about the number of the sleeves. As it stands now, Cavani will continue to wear the jersey unless there is a major change.
However, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero is now reporting that talks are advanced between Cavani and Barcelona, meaning Ronaldo could simply take the Uruguayan’s shirt number if he departs.

Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester Evenings’ United correspondent has also explained why Cavani would not be surprised to leave.
He tweeted: “If Cavani goes to Barcelona before the deadline it won’t be a surprise.
“Struggled to settle down in England. Wasn’t pleased about being unable to travel to Southampton. Internationals were also banned from traveling to countries on the red list. Ronaldo arrived. Also, [Sergio] Aguero was out till October.”
The MEN are also reporting that United are trying to make United their No 7 regardless of whether Cavani stays or goes.
After Cavani wore that shirt during the victory at Wolves, this could lead to a request from the Premier League. Other reports have stated that clubs can’t change their numbers after they are used during a season.
United won’t allow Diogo DALETO to leave before the deadline, regardless of interest from Borussia Dortmund.
United is unable to provide a replacement for the Bundesliga club as they are interested in a loan. However, United could not afford to make that purchase.
Although they initially wanted Kieran Trippier, talks with Atletico Madrid were difficult because La Liga champions required a premium.
