2. Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is a adaptation of Michael Crichton’s science-gone–awry novel. It offers an exciting, and often terrifying, tour through an amusement-park where dinosaurs hunt and roam. This seems to be a fairy tale for Dr. Alan Grant, paleontologist (Sam Neill), and Dr. Ellie Sattler, paleobotanist (Laura Dern). This park walk becomes an absolute nightmare once the Tyrannosaurus Rex is released. Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-winning visual effects, which resurrected extinct dinosaurs from the dead, as well as his masterfully-paced action sequences amazed audiences. These scenes are often thrilling escape scenes that see the heroes of the film fleeing from the claws and jaws of predatory beasts. 3. The Matrix

The 1999 action film that made the movie changed everything. Keanu Reeves plays Neo, the hacker who falls down a virtual rabbit hole in order to find out that the world he is living in is only a simulation. He joins forces with rebels, including Laurence Fishburne (and Carrie-Anne Moss) to overthrow the robotic tyrants who have taken control of humanity. The quest takes him to mind-blowing reveals, eye-popping fights and breath-snatching escapes. Their vision was a revelation for audiences and critics alike. The disturbing dystopia of sci-fi is wrapped up in an enticing cyberpunk aesthetic. It’s just as stylish as Reeves in his long, black trench coat. The Wachowskis also presented “bullet Time,” a groundbreaking visual effect that slowed down action but provided a variety of angles that made every hit land more difficult. 4. Independence Day

It’s up for a group of American heroes and comrades to rescue Earth from an alien invasion. Independence Day was co-written by Roland Emmerich and directed in part by Vivian A. Fox), an eccentric Vietnam War veteran (Randy Quaid), and a charismatic, yet cocky fighter-pilot (“Will Smith”) through a world-rattling struggle for the future. A string of spectacular action sequences deliver huge explosions and narrow escapes as well as thrilling air battles that punch directly at an extraterrestrial. 5. Rush Hour

Jackie Chan, a Hong Kong-born actor and comedian was still a big star in America in 1998 when this movie brought him to fame. Brett Ratner, the director and producer, thought Chan’s martial arts skills, comedy timing, and audacious stunts would be a great match for buddy comedy. This smash hit stars a high-kicking Chan as well as Chris Tucker, a comedian and actor who play a pair of cops trying to save the daughter of a Chinese diplomat. Rush Hour was as wise-cracking and funny-loving as it was realistic. It brought both its lead actors into Hollywood. Rush Hour 2 or Rush Hour 3 are great sequels if you’re up for triple the entertainment.

6. Birds of Prey

The choice is endless for subscribers. Our pick is 2020’s Birds of Prey. And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. __S.68__ Margot Robbie is a star alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rosie Perez. Jurnee Slolett-Bell and Ella Jay Basco also feature in this R-rated movie about a superhero that is audaciously violent and unapologetically sexual. It’s as much fun as any Harley movie can offer. 7. Inception

There’s a lot of layers to keep up with, but wild set pieces like this make it go down smooth.

Christopher Nolan, writer/director has raised the bar for action with his stunning films such as Tenet and Dark Knight Trilogy. His most innovative action film (so far), however, has been Inception. Suited up and set to stun, Leonardo DiCaprio heads a crew of specially trained thieves, who scheme to commit corporate sabotage through a consciousness-invading technology. They’re planning to enter the dream worlds of powerful heirs to make him their own. If they don’t get killed first, that is. Nolan has created a city that folds into itself, a hotel that tumbles like an slinky and dark twists. He also uses tricky totems. The finale is still wagging tongues. An all-star cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Elliot Page as well as Marion Cotillard, Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy.

8. Mad Max Fury Road

The movie was not supposed to be so amazing. The fourth installment in a series that was neglected for over 30 years, Mad Max Fury Road had production issues and rumors about tensions. The Academy was equally blown away by the film’s release in 2015. They nominated six Oscars and received nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Picture. Helmer George Miller transformed the tale of Tom Hardy, an ex-apocalyptic loner, into an operatic epic that exploded with frenzied escapes and car chases as well as jaw-dropping violence and guitar solos. This outrageous sequel also introduced Imperator Furiosa, a villain so badass she was instantly famous from her first glance. She is amazing.

9. Speed

Pop quiz: Hot shot, pop quiz! Which headliner has made it twice on our top ten list? Yes. Keanu Reeves is truly one-of-a-kind. The 1994 smash hit stars Keanu Reeves as the tough, steely hunk who plays a determined LAPD officer trying to stop Dennis Hopper (a cackling bomber) and ends up board a bus that is set to explode. It’s not as easy as just stopping the bus. If the speed drops below 50 mph, KABOOM! Bomb-busting is now more intense than ever. Jan de Bont’s suspenseful film features a slew of thrilling car chases and collisions as well as frenetic pace, firepower, and frenetic driving. The amazing chemistry that Reeves had with Sandra Bullock, his screen love interest added excitement to the thrill ride. They formed a formidable team, which stole hearts and fueled our sexual drive on their way to saving the world.

10. The Mummy

We all scream for Brendan Fraser.

It’s not realistic to expect remakes to be great, or even good. This 1999 remake of the 1932 story had filmgoers ecstatic. American adventurer Brendan Fraser plays the role of a dashing young man who discovers relics and romance in Egypt’s 1920s. He joins Rachel Weisz, an Egyptologist and John Hannah to find the City of the Dead. The trio of intrepid adventurers will uncover more than they could have imagined or feared when the excavation uncovers an ancient mummy with devastating power. This adventure is filled with mighty monsters and sentient sandstorms that can turn into flesh-eating scarabs. You can continue exploring the riches of this franchise by making a double-feature DIY with 2001’s The Mummy Returns.
