CD Projekt can’t predict its next generation with 100% certainty This year, updates to Cyberpunk 2 and Witcher 3 will be available

However, it is “definitely” still aiming at late 2021.

CD Projekt told investors that it can’t predict with 100% certainty when its Cyberpunk 2077 or Witcher 3 next-gen updates would launch, even though the developer maintains it still wants a release in late 2021.

A new enhanced version of The Witcher 3 was released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S X/S. It promises faster loading times and ray-tracing, and a next-gen “proper” Cyberpunk 2077 edition was promised in June 2020.

They were originally scheduled to launch in the same year. However, the current status of both has become unclear after Cyberpunk 2077’s disaster launch. The resulting studio reshuffle as well as the revised roadmap for development by CD Projekt have led to a reorganization of the company and a heightened focus on the core game.

Officially, both updates are still scheduled for release in “late 2021”, but SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski has now admitted to investors during CD Projekt’s H1 2021 results call (as transcribed by VGC) that while the studio is “definitely” still aiming to launch this year, it “can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”

Nowakowski stated that Cyberpunk 2077’s next-generation version will be released late in the year. We can’t guarantee that production will be accelerated, but we are mindful of the lessons learned over the last year.

The Witcher 3 Update is a similar story. Saber Interactive handles it externally. Nowakowski notes that “development” continues and that we can’t be certain the release date will change.

Nowakowski said that “for now,” “we certainly are aiming for both titles in late 2021, and I don’t want to give more details at the moment.”

CD Projekt reports that Cyberpunk 2077 is being worked on by just over a third. This includes both the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions. They also support the original title. The Cyberpunk team most recently released its “biggest patch to date”, introducing the likes of an improved minimap and, notably, a first batch of free post-launch DLC.
