Chelsea will not give up on Jules Kounde’s signing, despite closing the transfer window. Although the Blues had been the favorite to sign the Frenchman, Sevilla raised their asking price and made the deal a no-go.
Although Chelsea might not have signed Kounde this summer, they will consider a transfer for Kounde again in January.
This comes as a result of talks between Sevilla and the club having ended in the final minute due to the demand by the Spanish team for more money.
For a fee around PS52m, a verbal agreement was reached with Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadia.
Sevilla demanded another PS13m after the sale Kurt Zouma. This would have activated Kounde’s release clause.
After being shocked by the late request, Chelsea declined to reach an agreement.
Saul Niguez, who was on loan to Atletico Madrid, was brought in but Kounde would not be allowed despite having been heavily connected all summer.
It opens the door to other clubs but the Blues remain calm over the situation and will revisit an approach in January when the winter window opens, according to the Guardian.
Real Madrid, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked to the Frenchman.
Monchi, the Sevilla chief, insisted that Kounde was only interested in Chelsea.
He said, “There has been much talk about moves for Jules. The majority of these were rejected by player.”
Chelsea was the club that he loved the appearance of.
Kounde requested to be dropped from the team to face Elche this weekend. It remains to be seen what Kounde will do when he hears that his move to Stamford Bridge was canceled.
