The US Army’s infantry division is called the “Queen of Battle” and the crown of that king belongs to artillery. So it’s a shame we get to see so little of it in modern war sandbox games. A new content update has been released for Arma 3’s Global Mobilization DLC. It includes the huge M109 Paladin.

This is the fourth content update for the Global Mobilization – Cold War Germany DLC since it launched more than two years ago. Eight new vehicles were added to the Global Mobilization – Cold War Germany DLC’s latest update. The M109 self-propelled howitzer is now available (don’t refer to it as a “tank”). The M109G version was used by West German Armed Forces. The Soviet 2S1 Gvozdika, another self-propelled howitzer, the SF2 LARS 2 multiple-launch rocket system and the BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket system are also available to players. Also, the Russian 2P16 short range ballistic missile launcher complete with 2K6 Luna, which can be equipped with a nuclear warhead, is included for the Russian 2P16.

The BrPz 1 “Biber” combat support vehicle is another neat piece of military equipment that was included with the most recent update. It is easy to recognize because of its massive bridge that can be folded up and deployed over streams and gaps to allow it to cross ungainly tanks or howitzers.

The motor pool also includes a seven-tonne flatbed truck as well as a ten-tonne truck that can carry 155mm howitzer shells. It’s very handy!

There are some other nice additions in the update as well: there’s a new co-op scenario called Ninjas, new adaptations for Warlords multiplayer games, and a new module for Zeus that allows game masters to adjust the ammo loadouts in vehicles. For good measure, the developers also included an in-game camera as well as a pair West German Army sunglasses.

You’ve been waiting 14 kilometers away for the chance to illuminate a grid square in Arma 3.
