Jean-Paul Belmondo, a French actor, has passed away at the age 88. AFP has been informed by the lawyer of Jean-Paul Belmondo.
According to reports, Belmondo passed away in Paris after a long battle with illness.
The cause of his death is unknown.
After his outstanding performance in the crime drama, Breathless, the star gained international recognition.
After starring in JeanLuc Godard’s 1960 film A Bout de Souffle, he was a pivotal figure of the French new wave of cinema.
After his studies, the star made it to Paris’ Theatre de L’Atelier in 1953.
Before appearing in A Dog, A Mouse, and a Sputnik, Belmondo was first seen on the big screen in Moliere, 1956.
Belmondo was a star in Breathless and received international critical acclaim.
The New York Times called the actor “the most outstanding young French actor” since Gerard Philipe’s death in 1961.
