Apple’s September unveiling event, which is just two days away from now, will be held on September 2. You don’t have to wait until facts are certain, when you can start to think about the possibilities now.
The good news is these details come straight from Ming-Chi Kuo (h/t 9to5Mac), a top Apple analyst who is known for tipping details on the company’s upcoming products before they’re revealed. Although none of these details are confirmed, they’re likely to be a trustworthy expectation-setter.
Kuo foresees the iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini having three storage options: 128GB,256GB and 512GB. The 64-GB storage option, which was too little at this stage for most users, is now gone.
According to some reports, the larger iPhone models will also get a storage upgrade. However, it is going in the other direction. Four storage options will be offered for the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Max and iPhone 13 Max. These include the three previously mentioned plus an exclusive 1 TB option.
Kuo warned those who are hoping to get one of the latest iPhones immediately that they should be cautious. Apple could also be affected by continuing component shortages in the rest of the world. The investor report indicates that there could be more risk with older models, possibly because Apple is aware of the high demand for its most recent devices and has therefore dedicated more manufacturing resources to them.
Kuo suggests that we will see the AirPods for the first time Tuesday. They won’t be replacing the AirPods 2. They will either be more expensive than the AirPods 2 (which retails at $159) or lower in price. It seems like the models will still exist, regardless of which way it goes.
The AirPods 3 are expected to feature a redesign that puts them closer in form to the AirPods Pro, released in 2019. Although the new model won’t have active noise cancelling, it will be equipped with head-tracking Spatial Audio. Kuo says that this is all for AirPods. Kuo expects a Pro update in 2022.
Add all of this to the pile of rumors and expectations that have already amassed ahead of Apple’s Sept. 14 reveal event. You will soon find the answers, so keep your eyes open for more information on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. ET.
