In the wake of Mostert’s injury, the 49ers suddenly have a very small running back position. On Sunday, the team only had three running backs. Mostert was also absent. The 49ers are left with only JaMycal hasty and Elijah Mitchell, who were both out of action for Mostert. Trey Sermon (third-round rookie) is not available for play.

Hasty (25), is a second year back and played in eight of the 49ers’ games in 2020. Hasty, 25, ran for 148 yards on rushing and scored a touchdown with 39 carries. He also took part in 62 special-teams snaps.

Mitchell is 23, a 2021 sixth round draft pick. He played college football at Louisiana. Mitchell ran 38 yards for his touchdown touchdown in college after Mostert left the field. He also had 46 touchdowns.

With Mostert out and Sermon incapacitated, it will be fascinating to see how Mitchell handles the carries. He may be the backfield leader of the team if he continues to get carries with Mostert out for a while.
