There’s a monumental week ahead for Apple fans with the US technology giant holding another one of its famous September launch events. The company will likely use the keynote to unveil its next-generation iPhones. We might also see the refreshed AirPods and updated Apple Watch if they follow tradition. Don’t worry if you don’t want a new iPhone, as Tuesday’s keynote could reveal an upgrade for your existing iPhone.
Apple’s new iOS 15 software was announced back in June. A worldwide release is almost certain for this month. Apple announces these yearly iOS updates almost every year at its iPhone event, so we may get an official release date in a matter of days.
iOS 15 is another big release. It’s loaded with major upgrades, including changes to FaceTime and Maps.
iPhone is a key part of many people’s lives. We have added new ways to make it more useful for them. Craig Federighi is Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering.
iOS 15 allows users to stay connected and share experiences in real-time, provides new tools that help them reduce distractions and focus better, enhances the photo experience and brings new ways of exploring the world with massive upgrades to Maps. It’s a great experience that we can’t wait to share with customers.”
We’re hoping to find out when iOS 15 is released at Tuesday’s event, but in the meantime here’s a list of new features that will soon be available on your iPhone.
The major change in iOS 15 involves a significant upgrade of Apple’s video calling service.
Spatial Audio will be available in FaceTime. This clever technology makes it seem as though friends’ voices are coming directly from the exact spot they have placed their faces on the screen.
You can also use “Noise Isolation” to block out any distracting sounds from your video chat with the neighbor.
Portrait Mode is another feature fans will love. FaceTime adds blur to your face, just like Portrait Mode when taking a photo. This makes you stand out on FaceTime calls.
This update also includes the ability to set up a call at a specific time. Contacts will be reminded and can then join the call.
SharePlay is another upgrade available for FaceTime calls. SharePlay allows anyone to share music and video on the phone. All devices can sync playback, meaning that friends can add songs to the queue and skip bad choices on their iPads or iPhones.
You can watch a movie together with your friends and have a chat while the film is being shown. Disney+ and TikTok have committed to the implementation of this feature.
Safari has received a significant upgrade that will allow iPhone users to surf the web on iPhone. To make it easier for one-handed use, the tab and search bar have been moved to the bottom.
The new tab bar is also smaller and lighter so that it doesn’t interfere with the content of your browser.
A new Tab Groups feature allows you to store tabs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac and make it easy for users to access them from anywhere. A customisable starting page is now available, and web extensions are finally added to Safari for iOS.
This is an innovative feature iPhone users will love.
Live Text allows you to paste any text within your photo. You can copy and paste menus, details about restaurants, passport information, and handwritten notes into messages and emails.
Apple Maps will be getting an overhaul that gives the entire service a fresh look.
You’ll find an extremely detailed view of some the largest cities in the world, with streets that clearly show each pedestrian crossing and traffic light. The intricate details of iconic landmarks and buildings have been meticulously mapped.
Maps also offers a 3-D city-driving experience. The birds-eye view provides a better overview of the roads ahead, and can help you avoid missing a turning or intersection on the motorway.
Apple has improved its directions for public transportation with new maps that show you where your bus stops and when you can hop on or off.
The new Focus Mode is a great option if you are constantly distracted by your smartphone. The new Focus Mode allows users to turn off alerts and change the appearance of their home screens depending on the activities they’re doing.
This means that you can play addictive games during work hours, but you have to finish your shift so emails from your boss are automatically discarded. You can set Focus Mode to switch the apps that are displayed on your screen.
Your iPhone’s location can be used to automatically change between mode modes. Focus Mode will notify contacts that your iPhone is busy. This should stop any argument that hasn’t been resolved by a text.
