Elliott was enjoying an exceptional season at Anfield up until Sunday afternoon. He had played in every Premier League game to-date.

The winger-turned-midfielder impressed on loan at Blackburn Rovers last campaign, and Jurgen Klopp has been full of praise since phasing him into the first-team picture.

However, his rapid progression was halted when Struijk’s challenge caused Elliott to have a dislocated foot.

Elliott finally replied, “Crazy though I have more legs that United have trophies in the past eight years,”

Liverpool supporters loved the emphatic answer, but the Red Devils’ three trophy wins in the same time period calls into question the football trivia of the midfielder.

Elliott was a topical issue since Sunday’s incident. He maturely came to Struijk’s defense straight after the incident and then again on Wednesday when Leeds’ appeal against his straight card was denied by the FA.

It will soon pass, brother. You’ll smash it all again in no time. Be positive.

A deeper look at United’s trophy history reveals that Elliott’s return was not quite what you expected, but the Red Devils have been on an interminable run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United failed to capture a trophy in the Europa League final against Villarreal, their first since Norgeir took control.

They have benefited from a large summer transfer window, which has helped them to be in a stronger place this season than last. However, they still face competition from Liverpool and other Premier League clubs for glory.

Reds are bringing back a few high-profile players after long injury layoffs. They could challenge United for the title.

Solskjaer’s European hopes were shattered on Tuesday when Young Boys defeated them in stoppage time.

Liverpool will open the Champions League campaign against AC Milan Wednesday night.

As he gets back to his full strength, Elliott and a number of other players will be unable to attend the tie. His comments after he is fully fit will give Liverpool and United a boost.
