Prince Charles sends cryptic message to Prince Harry in open letter to both his sons

Charles mentioned Harry and Prince William in an essay he penned to urge older generations to step up to the plate and take meaningful action to tackle the climate crisis. In his letter, the Prince of Wales recalled his family’s commitment to the environment over the past six decades.

And, mentioning his children, he said he is “proud” of their decision to take action on this matter.

Writing for Newsweek, he said: “As a father, I am proud that my sons have recognised this threat.

“Most recently, my elder son, William, launched the prestigious Earthshot Prize to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years by identifying and investing in the technologies that can make a difference.

“And my younger son, Harry, has passionately highlighted the impact of climate change, especially in relation to Africa, and committed his charity to being net zero.”

This mention of Harry is particularly poignant as it comes amid months of claims of a difficult relationship between the royal father and son.

The Duke of Sussex himself addressed his bond with Charles during the landmark Oprah Winfrey interview he did alongside his wife Meghan Markle.

Harry said during the interview in March last year: “There’s a lot to work through there, you know?

“I feel really let down, because he’s been through something similar.

“He knows what pain feels like, and this is… and Archie’s his grandson.

“But, at the same time, you know, I, of course I will always love him, but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened.

“And I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.”

During this interview, the Duke of Sussex also claimed Charles was one of the members of his family to be “trapped within the system” – just as he had felt before breaking away from it with his wife and son.

In his essay, Charles referred to some of the work being carried out by Harry on the environment.

The Duke became the president of African Parks, a non-profit taking care of the rehabilitation and conservation of protected areas in the African continent.

Harry also spearheaded the launch of Travalyst, which aims at making sustainable travel mainstream.

As COP26 was undergoing in Glasgow, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared the commitment of their organisation Archewell to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.

The Prince of Wales also named his elder son and heir in his essay.

William, as noted by Charles, launched the Earthshot Prize in October 2020.

This initiative will award a total of £50million over the next decade to 50 winners able to submit workable solutions to five most pressing environmental issues.

Last October, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the first-ever Earthshot environmentally-friendly award ceremony in London.

Next year, the awards will take place in the US.

In his essay, Charles also paid tribute to his father Prince Philip’s long-lasting commitment to conservation.

He wrote: “Sixty years ago, my late father identified the damage humankind was inflicting on the planet and helped to found the World Wildlife Fund.

“A decade later, when I first spoke publicly about the environment, many wondered if my sense of urgency was misplaced.

“That view has shifted in the intervening decades, though all too slowly, and, even today, lacks the urgency needed.”
