Emmerdale saw the arrival of Marcus Dean (played by Darcy Grey) last week and viewers are already sceptical of the newcomer. As Marcus arrived in the village he introduced himself to Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and her friend Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), revealing himself to be the estranged son of Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather). However, some ITV soap fans believe he might not be telling the truth. Could Marcus be lying about his identity and trying to trick Rhona?
Regular Emmerdale viewers will remember Pierce was sent to prison for raping his wife Rhona on their wedding day.
The abusive criminal returned to the village years later in 2020 and caused more horror for his ex-wife.
Pierce killed Rhona’s boyfriend, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), before kidnapping Vanessa and attacking Kim Tate (Claire King).
All of this was part of his plan to get Rhona to leave the village with him, but Pierce was eventually caught and sent to prison once again.

However, Rhona received a shock last week when Pierce made contact with her in a letter revealing he was seriously ill and dying.
In the mysterious letter, Pierce also revealed he had a secret son, Marcus.
Later in the week, Marcus received a phone call and told Rhona it was the prison service confirming Pierce had died in jail.
After watching the drama unfold, several viewers became suspicious of Marcus with many believing he’s not really Pierce’s son and is lying about the criminal’s death.
“Wouldn’t surprise me if Pierce shows up in a few months and Marcus is just covering for him #Emmerdale,” @RyanGTweetsTV agreed.
“I am not buying that this Marcus is Pierce’s son – at no point has he ever been mentioned. And for someone to approach Rhona with a request is a bit suss #emmerdale #pierceson #marcus #rhona,” @emmapurple1 Tweeted.
Darcy Grey, who plays Marcus in the soap, has also hinted there’s more than meets the eye with his character.
Chatting on Friday’s episode of Lorraine, the soap star said: “We’ll definitely find out a bit more about who he is.
“I think that’s the really lovely thing about Marcus, he’s coming in with this presumption of who he is, but only time will tell exactly who that person actually is,” Darcy remarked.
Could this mean Marcus isn’t really Pierce’s estranged son?
If so, he could be a criminal friend of Pierce’s helping him to get revenge on Rhona.
Viewers will have to tune in to find out what Marcus is really up to.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
