That cast you love? It just got a little bigger.
In recent years, arguably few other shows have demanded the attention of audiences to the extent that Yellowstone has.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, the American neo-western began blazing a trail back in 2018 and showcased such standouts from Kevin Costner to Kelly Reilly.
Fortunately, fans were given an extra dose of the show courtesy of a prequel in 2021, which has continued to impress into the new year.
Following the Dutton family as they set out on a journey west to the last bastion of untamed America, the series serves as the perfect companion piece to its predecessor while also proving to make a mark of its own on the modern TV landscape.
Episode 7 ushered in some exciting new faces, but foremostly, some are wondering who plays Sam on 1883…
1883’s Sam actor may be familiar
Arriving in episode 7, 1883 introduces Martin Sensmeier’s portrayal of Sam, a Native American who has embarked upon an intriguing and potentially very important relationship with Elsa Dutton.
The 36-year-old American actor and model has appeared in a number of TV series since his first appearance in Salem (he played Mohawk) back in 2014; before that his only credit was a short called K’ina Kil: The Slaver’s Son.
Since then he has showcased his skills in Westworld (Wanahton), FBI: Most Wanted (Reginald Waters), The Liberator (Sergeant Samuel Coldfoot), and Rutherford Falls (Ray).
Some may recognise him from these projects, but if not, this one’s sure to jog your memory.
He actually starred in a handful of Yellowstone episodes, first appearing in season 2 episode 2 and reprising the role of Martin throughout the season.
The star is on Instagram
For those who are won over by Martin’s screen talents and want to give him a follow over on social media, you’ll be thrilled to learn that he’s on Instagram.
You can find him at ‘maretinsensmeier‘ where he currently boasts an impressive 68.8k followers.
He recently shared a shot of him with the one and only Tim McGraw on the set of 1883, saying that he’s “honored to share the screen with this solid guy.”
The movies of Martin Sensmeier
It’s not all TV for Martin, and he’d actually worked with Taylor Sheridan before Yellowstone in the directorial feature debut Wind River (Chip).
Other movie roles include Lilin’s Brood (Wold), The Magnificent Seven (Red Harvest), Perfect (The Harvester), Beyond the Sky (Kyle Blackburn), Spare Room (David), and more recently The Ice Road (Cody Mantooth) alongside Liam Neeson.
Forthcoming projects include The Things They Carried, The Last Manhunt, Nine Bullets, 13 Steps, Dream, and more.
If you’re hoping he’ll become a greater part of 1883 as it progresses, you’ll simply have to stay tuned. Not that anybody needed convincing at this point – it’s a smash hit.
